Parking Lots and the New Wesleyan Molecular Life Sciences Building:

Will Wesleyan build more parking lots for the new science building, or will it look to a sustainable parking policy that will encourage walking, cycling, and mass transit for faculty, staff, and students?  Stephen Devoto developed a slideshow to illustrate the issues involved and to make a very compelling case that current parking lots offer excessive spaces, and that the university can reduce parking spots to help cut costs and to build to a greener future.

You can see Stephen's presentation here.

Students Given Free Bikes to Pledge No Cars:

What a great idea.  Have freshmen pledge to not bring a car to campus and reward them with a free bike.  Read more here.

Could Wesleyan try this?  What about with Faculty and Staff?  What about Middlesex Hospital or other large employers in town?

The Parking Meeting: February 11, 2008:

A strong showing of Transportation Alternative Members showed up at the city's Parking Meeting on Monday, February 11th at City Hall.

Here is some more information about the study on the City of Middletown site: http://www.middletownplanning.com/Specialprojects/downtownparkingstudy.html

You can learn more about the Parking Study Consultants here.

It is interesting to note that there are 3 funding earmarks intertwined with this parking project. Two address larger transportation concerns--transportation infrastructure and the construction of a intermodal center.
